Who were your childhood heroes?
Dad:My childhood heroes were as follows:
1. My dad. He was bigger than life. He grew up in Wyoming; was a 'walk-on' basketball player for the University of Wyoming; spoke Russian; and did spy stuff for the Air Force. Dad is a great singer; a great Bishop; and wonderful father.
2. I liked Johnny Quest, a cartoon action hero. He was a cool kid about my age.
3. I liked "Sky King" the flying detective who lived in Nevada or California and flew his plan to catch bad guys.
4. I liked James Bond because he had cool cars and adventures.
5. I liked Joseph Smith for all he did to restore the gospel in the face of adversity and death.
Mom: My first childhood hero was my Dad. I remember at the age of three going out and helping my dad work in the strawberry garden.I later remember the time when our family went on vacation to Washington state. My dad and I were the only ones brave enough to test the cold, ocean water. I did have some great times with my dad.
Later on, my childhood hero was a teacher at my high school. I really looked up to my English teacher. She was young, pretty and would always share her weekend dates with us before we read our class book selection. Always, after lunch, we would sit together in the classroom, read, expound and enjoy the great writings of famous authors. It was such a relaxed atmosphere. Because of my English teacher's example, I always thought it would be nice to become a teacher. Fortunately, I did receive my university degree in teaching. One skill, I will always enjoy.
My Grandmother Price was also my hero. Whenever our family went too visit her, she would serve us the most delicious food. She was a great cook. We enjoyed fresh salmon and vegetables from her garden. Grandma always had such warm and clean beds waiting for us when we visited. I remember sleeping on her couch and looking out her front window at the beautiful Idaho Falls temple and water fall located across the street from my grandmother's house. It was a majestic view. Grandmother Price had such wonderful stories and spiritual happenings that she would relate to us. I treasured those stories and the memories of visiting with my grandmother. She set such a wonderful example. She truly loved her family, had a strong testimony of the gospel and served others. She taught, through her example, that through service to others you truly experience great happiness.
